Back and Joint Pain From Physical Work in Gettysburg, PA

Care for the bodies that do the work - trades, farms, orchards, warehouses, and delivery drivers across Gettysburg and Adams County.

You have been on the roof since six, and by noon your low back is talking to you. Or you spent the day in the orchard picking, and now your shoulders, wrists, and low back are all stiff at once. Maybe you are in the warehouse lifting and carrying for eight hours, or you are a contractor who is on a ladder, under a sink, and overhead on a frame all in the same afternoon. Physical work is hard on the body - not because any one movement is wrong, but because you do them all day, every day, for years. If your body is your livelihood, a sore back or a stiff joint is not just pain. It is lost time, lost work, and the fear that this is just how it is now.

It does not have to be. This is exactly who this office is for - the people who work with their bodies all over Gettysburg, Biglerville, Fairfield, and the rest of Adams County.

How physical work wears on the body

Work strain comes from repetition, load, and time. Lifting and twisting at the same time. Climbing ladders and working overhead. Long drives between job sites. Standing on concrete for hours. Gripping tools all day. Carrying weight on one side. Doing the same motion hundreds of times a week until the joints and muscles that do it get tired, tight, and sore. It is not one injury - it is the slow accumulation of a thousand small ones. Your low back, shoulders, wrists, hips, and knees take the brunt of it. It is common, it is real, and it is exactly the kind of thing this office works on.

How we approach work strain here

Your first visit starts with listening - what you do for a living, how your body feels during and after, and what you want to be able to keep doing. Then a hands-on exam of the areas that are bothering you - spine, shoulders, wrists, hips, knees, wherever the strain is showing up. From there, Dr. Natalie builds a plan in plain language.

That plan may include spinal adjustments and extremity adjustments to help restricted joints move freely, soft tissue therapy to release the tight muscles from repetitive work, and simple exercises and movement changes you can use on the job so the work does not keep wearing you down. If something needs a different kind of care, she will tell you honestly.

See a doctor first if...

Some work pain needs a doctor, imaging, or the emergency room - not a chiropractor. See a doctor first, or go to the ER, if you have:

  • • Pain after a fall from a height, a ladder, or a serious accident
  • • Numbness or weakness spreading into your arms or legs
  • • Loss of bladder or bowel control
  • • A joint that is hot, red, or swollen for no clear reason
  • • Pain that is steadily getting worse no matter what you do

If you were hurt on the job, tell your doctor and follow your workplace injury process. We will be here when you are ready for conservative care.

What recovery usually looks like

With work strain, you usually notice it at the end of the day first - the ache that used to start at noon does not show up until you are driving home. Then you are less stiff getting out of the truck in the morning. Then you realize you got through the week without having to work around the pain. Some days will be harder than others, especially when the job is heavy, and that is normal. The goal is a body that holds up to the work - not a quick fix that fades by Monday. Dr. Natalie checks in at every visit and adjusts the plan as you go.

How this fits with the rest of your care

If your work strain is mostly in your low back, see our low back pain page. For the hands-on side of care, our extremity adjustments page covers how we work on shoulders, wrists, hips, and knees.

Work strain questions, answered

I hurt my back at work - can you see me this week?

Call us. We keep room in the schedule for people who tweaked something on the job and need to be seen sooner. If it was a serious injury or a fall, please see a doctor first.

Can you help with pain from repetitive work?

Often, yes. Adjustments, soft tissue work, and simple changes to how you lift, grip, and reach may help. We work on the whole pattern, not just one spot.

Should I keep working while I heal?

Usually, yes - with modifications. We will talk through your day and help you change how you lift, reach, and move so you can keep working without making it worse.

Do you treat work injuries?

We provide conservative chiropractic care. If you need a workplace injury report, imaging, or a specialist, we will tell you honestly and point you in the right direction.

My wrists ache from gripping tools all day - can you help?

Often, yes. Extremity adjustments and soft tissue release can help, along with simple changes to how you grip and reach. We will look at the whole arm, not just the wrist.
